Type 1 Diabetes
(Formerly known as “juvenile diabetes” or “insulin-dependent diabetes”) – A disease in which the body does not produce any insulin, most often first diagnosed in children and young adults. People with type 1 diabetes must take daily insulin injections or use an insulin pump to stay alive. Type 1 diabetes accounts for 5 to 10 percent of diabetes.
